Villacidro is an Italian municipality with 13,775 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Sud Sardegna in Sardinia . Villacidro was the capital of the province of Medio Campidano in the southwest of the island from 2001 to 2016 .
During the Second World War , the Villacidro-Trunconi military airfield ( ⊙ ) was located between Villacidro and Serramanna and was used successively by the Italian, German and American air forces. Today, among other things, there is a horse racing track on the site .
