history
Gonnesa was settled between the 11th and 13th centuries and was originally a rural center. However, by 1400 the area was largely depopulated. It was not settled again until 1774. The mining , which was operated since 1300, was the main industry until after the Second World War , then most of the mines were closed. In 1906 there was a bloodily suppressed revolt by the miners to seek better living and working conditions, which caused a sensation nationwide.
Seddas Modizzis, four kilometers east of the village, is an abandoned tin mine with ruins of processing and heaps.
economy
Today tourism is an important industry. Especially the beaches on the Gulf of Gonnesa, the Protonuraghe Is Bangius , the well sanctuaries and menhirs and Domus de Janas of the archaeological site Murru Moi attract numerous tourists and locals. The beautiful beach Plag'e Mesu between Fontanamare and Tonnara is no longer an insider tip.
traffic
The place is connected to Iglesias by the state road 126 .
