Castiadas is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1678 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Sud Sardegna in Sardinia .

geography

The municipality is located about 49 kilometers east of Cagliari on the Tyrrhenian Sea . The neighboring communities are Maracalagonis ( CA ), Muravera , San Vito , Sinnai (CA) and Villasimius .

Attractions

The Protonuraghe Scalas is north of Castiadas.

Former penal colony

From 1875 to 1955 an agricultural penal colony was operated near Castiadas . Up to 800 prisoners were busy clearing the area, later in agriculture and road construction. Today, the security cells and exhibits from the history of the facility are shown in a museum on the site.

traffic

The Strada Statale 125 Orientale Sarda runs through the municipality from Cagliari to Olbia . There is a small airfield for light aircraft in the village of Olia Speciosa .
