Iglesias is an Italian city ​​and municipality in southwest Sardinia with 26,300 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). Until 2016 it was co-capital of the Province of Carbonia-Iglesias , which then became part of the Province of Sud Sardegna .

history

Until the 14th century Iglesias carried the Italian name Villa di Chiesa (German: Kirchdorf). When Sardinia came to the Aragonese in 1324 , the place took its current Spanish name (Spanish Iglesia (s) - German church (s)).
