Giba is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 1982 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Sud Sardegna in Sardinia . The municipality is located about 13 kilometers southeast of Carbonia and about 27.5 kilometers south-southeast of Iglesias . The district of Villarios is located directly on the Mediterranean coast.

history

The nuragic culture left u. a. a Domus de Janas . In the Middle Ages, the area was under the rule of a Benedictine monastery until the end of the first millennium, when 1122 pirates settled in the area. The former bishopric was given up briefly and finally moved to Iglesias in 1603.
