Gilberto Godoy Filho
Gilberto Godoy Filho , known as Giba (born December 23, 1976 in Londrina , Brazil ) is a Brazilian volleyball player .
Giba was born in Londrina but grew up in Curitiba . He had to overcome some difficulties in his life: he had leukemia as a baby, a serious arm injury as a child, and in 2002 he was suspended for some time. Giba has been playing volleyball professionally with various Brazilian clubs since 1996. In 2003 he moved to Italy to Piemonte Volley and in 2007 to Russia to Iskra Odinzowo . In 2009 he returned to Brazil and played in São Paulo with Pinheiros Sky and from 2011 with Cimed Florianópolis . In 2012 Giba moved to the Argentine League to Drean Bolívar . After brief engagements with Funvic Taubaté and al-Nasr Dubai , Giba ended his career in 2014.
Giba is considered one of the best volleyball players in the world. With the Brazilian national team he won numerous medals at the Olympic Games, world championships and in the world league. In the 2004 Olympics , the World League in 2006 , at the 2006 World Cup and the World Cup in 2007 Giba were each awarded "Wertvollster player".
In 2018 Giba was inducted into the " Volleyball Hall of Fame ".
