Teulada is an Italian municipality in Sardinia with 3448 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The municipality belongs to the province of Sud Sardegna and is located on the southwest tip of the island.
history
Teulada has a long history, which is attested by numerous nurages . In the Middle Ages , the place on the coast was exposed to numerous attacks by the Saracens , which is why it was moved inland from today's Capo Teulada . In 1940 the sea battle at Cape Teulada broke out near between the Italian and British navies .
Military training area
In the 1950s, the Italian army set up a military training area near Capo Teulada , which made part of the very scenic coastal region in southwestern Sardinia inaccessible to the public, tourism and fishing. In the decades that followed, the area, which was mainly used by armored and amphibious units, became a central point of contact for exercises with live ammunition. In recent years there have been repeated attempts by the local population and their elected representatives to make the restricted military area usable for civil purposes and thus to promote the local economy. Despite or precisely because of the intensive military use, the coastal area has largely been preserved in its original form.
The practice area is on State Road 195 between Teulada in the east and Sant'Anna Arresi in the west. The 3rd Bersaglieri Regiment is stationed in the associated barracks . There is a small airfield at the military training area ( ⊙ ).
