San Sperate is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 8420 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Sud Sardegna in Sardinia . It is located about 20 kilometers northwest of Cagliari on the Riu Mannu .
history
The area was settled in antiquity by the Carthaginians and the Punis . An excellently preserved mask was found in one of the grave sites.
Between 450 and 550 the Vandals ruled the Sardinian area. A short time later, the relics of St. Speratus came to today's Sperate. The village was named after the saint sometime between 600 and 1200.
Until the end of feudalism in 1835, the village was under the rule of different families.
Economy and Transport
The main crops in San Sperate are cereals and tomatoes.
The Strada Statale 130dir Iglesiente leads through the village from Decimomannu to Monastir .
