Villasimius ( Sardinian Biddasimius or Crabonaxa ) is an Italian municipality with 3750 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It has been part of the Sud Sardegna Province in the autonomous region of Sardinia since 2016 .
geography
The municipality is located about 57 km from the capital Cagliari , in the extreme south-east of Sardinia. The neighboring municipalities are Castiadas , Maracalagonis ( CA ) and Sinnai (CA).
history
Today's modern small town developed from a shepherd's village founded in the 19th century and is a popular holiday destination. However, the area of the municipality was already settled in prehistoric times, in antiquity and in the Middle Ages. Among other things, there were some nuraghi nearby , such as the Nuraghe Cuccureddus and the Phoenician port of Cuccureddus .

In Villasimius and the surrounding area there are miles of sandy beaches, such as the wide strip of the Gulf of Carbonara, which is reminiscent of a desert landscape. The bay of Cala di Sinzias opens north of the town ; further north extends the Costa Rei , where white sandy beaches alternate with cliffs; in the southwest another stretch of coast begins on the Gulf of Cagliari . The S. Caterina tower on Capo Carbonara , one of the numerous coastal fortresses in Sardinia, offers a wide view of the gulf . Another fortress, the Fortezza Vecchia , is located near the port, the Marina di Villasimius .
