Decimomannu is an Italian municipality in Sardinia with 8,361 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The municipality belongs to the metropolitan city of Cagliari and is just a few kilometers northwest of the capital Cagliari .

history

Decimomannu has Phoenician and Roman origins. The Sardinian name of the place comes from the Latin decimo at urbe Karali miliario , which means "10 miles from Cagliari" (on the Rio Mannu river ).

Decimomannu has a train station from which the railway lines from Cagliari to Sassari and to Iglesias branch off. It is also the terminus of the Servizio ferroviario metropolitano di Cagliari .

Decimomannu is known outside of Sardinia mainly because of the Decimomannu military airfield just north of the town.
