Monserrato is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 19,677 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Cagliari in Sardinia . The place is located about four kilometers northeast of Cagliari and was a district there until 1991, when an independent municipality was created based on a referendum .

The place is a traffic junction for several national roads , u. a. Strada Statale 554 and Strada Statale 387. There is also a rail link to Cagliari, on which the Cagliari light rail has been running since 2008 . Their museum can be found at the FdS train station .

From 1919 to the late 1950s there was an airfield ( ) in Monserrato , which over time served both civil and military purposes. Two maintenance halls have been preserved, some of which are used by the forest authorities .
