Quartucciu is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 13,132 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Cagliari in Sardinia . The municipality is located about 7 kilometers northeast of Cagliari on Lake Simbrizzi.

Giant grave Is Concias near Quartucciu

From the time between 1000 and 600 BC The giant grave of Is Concias dates back to the 4th century BC , which indicates that a rich culture already settled here in the Bronze Age . In the archaeological area of Pill'è Matta there are 200 other smaller graves. These stone towers ( nuraghe ) go back to the culture of the same name , including Nuraghe Arrù . Even before the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the place was invaded by vandals .

Quartucciu only regained its independence as an independent municipality in 1983, when it was detached from the urban area of Cagliari (since 1928) by a referendum .
