In 2003 Unión Lara would have been promoted to the Primera División Venezolano, the top division in Venezuelan football, for the first time by a hair, but in play-off games for promotion they failed at Atlético El Vigía . The same fate befell the club a year later against Aragua FC . In preparation for the Copa América 2007 , which was held in Venezuela , the number of participants in the Venezuelan first division increased from ten to eighteen. In the course of this, Unión Lara became first class in 2007. But you stayed only one season in the top division before the direct relegation took place. To date, the return to the Primera División has not yet succeeded.
