Luciano Aquino (born January 26, 1985 in Mississauga , Ontario ) is an Italian - Canadian ice hockey player who last played until 2016 for EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian ice hockey league . His brother Anthony is also a hockey player.

Career

Aquino played from 2000 to 2003 in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League (OPJHL) and came to 100 missions, where he scored 69 goals and 80 assists . During this time he was drafted in 2001 by the Oshawa Generals in the 8th round of the OHL Priority Selection as 142nd player, but never played for this club. He then played for the University of Maine in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and won the Hockey East Championship with the team. From 2004 to 2009 he played in various North American leagues and was selected in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders , for whose farm team Bridgeport Sound Tigers he played in the American Hockey League (AHL). He also reached the Conference Semifinals of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with Brampton Battalion in 2006 and won the International Hockey League (IHL) championship with the Fort Wayne Komets in 2008 .

In the 2008/09 season he came to Europe and played in the Italian Serie A with the clubs Asiago and Valpellice until 2011 . He scored 80 goals and 121 assists in 112 appearances. In 2011 he signed a one-year contract with Ingolstadt from the German League (DEL) after he had prevailed against Jeff LoVecchio in a two-week trial training session. After that year he signed with the Austrian club Dornbirn, where he was one of the strongest players in the league in the following two seasons. He recommended himself for the Swedish Svenska Hockeyligan (SHL) and played for Färjestad, but was unsatisfied with the conditions and therefore asked for his contract to be terminated. He then returned to Dornbirn until the end of the 2014/15 season.

For 2015/16 he was signed by Salzburg and won the Austrian championship title and the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League title with the Red Bulls.

International

After his naturalization in Italy, he completed five international matches for Italy in the 2010/11 season .
