The population decline at the end of the 19th and first half of the 20th century is mainly due to the loss of jobs as a result of the mechanization of agriculture .
economy
The inhabitants of the place lived for centuries as a self-sufficiency from agriculture (agriculture and cattle breeding). Wine was also grown; the place still has the right to market its grapes through the Appellations Comtés Rhodaniens , Coteaux des Baronnies , Mediterranée and Drôme ; There are still vineyards in the vicinity of the village, but there are no longer any vintners in the village. Since the last decades of the 20th century, tourism has played an important role in the economic life of the place in the form of renting holiday apartments ( gîtes ) .
history
In the 12th century the place belonged to the abbey of Saint-André de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon , which administered both the castle chapel Saint-André d'Esparron and the church of Saint-Vincent in the long-abandoned neighboring town of Linceuil . As early as 1245, the place and church were placed under the protection of the Île Barbe Abbey .
Attractions
- The small place is recognized as a village fleuri .
- The parish church of Saint-Michel , built from only slightly worked rubble stones , is dedicated to the Archangel Michael and dates from the 12th and 15th centuries. The tympanum above the entrance portal is shell-shaped. The simple bell tower tapers slightly upwards.
- There are still two round towers of the immediately adjacent medieval castle ( château ), only half of which has survived. The former castle area is now used as a community cemetery ( cimetière ).
