location

The irregular mountain ridge is located in the area of the municipalities of Fonni , Desulo , Aritzo , Arzana and Villagrande and reaches its climax in a spacious semicircle of several 1800 m high peaks. The highest is the Punta La Marmora with a height of 1834 m.

geology

The Gennargentu consists mainly of slate formations , which give the landscape a wavy aspect and from which numerous porphyry veins rise.

Origin of name

The name refers to the silver ore deposits in the area (genna = pass, argentu = silver).
