The Punta La Marmora is the highest peak of the Gennargentu massif and therefore the highest point in Sardinia .

The mountain is located in the Barbagia , an area in the east of the island. At 1834 m, Punta La Marmora is the highest point of a semicircular mountain ridge. It lies in the territory of the municipalities of Desulo and Arzana in the province of Nuoro .
Origin of name
The Punta La Marmora is named after the general and senator Alberto La Marmora , who intensively explored and surveyed Sardinia in the first half of the 19th century. Previously the mountain was called Perdas Caprias ("goat rock") or Predas Carpìas ("split rock") in Sardinian . In addition to the official name, the Sardinian names often appear on maps.
