Brinches is a place and a municipality in the Portuguese region of Alentejo . Regional tradition traces the place name back to a type of net that was formerly used for fishing on the Guadiana , the Brinxes .

history

Old Serpa-Brinches station: until the line was closed in 1989, there was a connection to the rail network via the Ramal de Moura line

Finds prove a settlement up to the Bronze Age .

At the time of Roman rule it belonged to the province of Lusitania .

From 711 the region belonged to the Arab rulership of al-Andalus until the Reconquista . After an initial conquest by King D. Afonso Henriques , the region was finally recaptured in the middle of the 13th century under King D. Sancho II .

Brinches has been an independent community since the 16th century at the latest.

The parish suffered some destruction during the Restoration War in the 17th century.
