The oldest man is the Japanese Jiroemon Kimura , who died at the age of 116 years and 54 days. The oldest living man is possibly the Spaniard Saturnino de la Fuente García, born on February 8, 1909, a scientific verification of his life data is still pending. The following lists correspond to the current state of research and therefore do not claim to be conclusive. Living men are highlighted in blue .

On this page only men are listed whose life data has been scientifically proven and has been published by an appropriate institution; a mere mention in mass media is not enough.

The appendix lists those people who were once accepted by various institutions as the oldest men with the specified dates of birth, whose correctness was, however, substantially questioned during a later review, but without any positive proof of the actual date of birth could be provided. Since they would not be recognized by the current standards of age verification, they are listed here separately from the oldest men with proven age, as long as the alleged age is sufficient for inclusion in the list of the 100 oldest men or until positive evidence for this or another date of birth is published.

This verification was based on simpler test standards than those used by today's leading Gerontology Research Group for age verifications - in particular for such exceptional age claims. In the course of his life, Beard gave divergent information about his age and his state of birth, for example he gave 60 years for the 1930 census (= year of birth 1870) and North Carolina , for the 1940 census 42 years (= year of birth 1898) and Florida and for the Florida census 1945 66 Years (= year of birth 1879) and Georgia . According to several newspaper articles from the years before the end of his life, he was born in Norfolk , Virginia . His life data comes from the Social Security Death Index [1] and the Florida Death Index [2] . No consistent findings in the US census before 1930 are known, birth certificates do not exist. There is also confusion about the spelling of the first name - with a t as in the SSDI and on the tombstone or with a double t as in all known newspaper articles during his lifetime, see also [3] and [4] . A newspaper article on his 107th birthday states that Beard doesn't look as old as he should be according to the Social Security Administration . According to contemporary newspaper articles, he met his wife Angerine (probably 1894 [5] [6] –1971) in 1919 and had 12 children with her. If the oldest child Edward was recorded in the 1930 census at the age of 19 (= year of birth around 1911), this also speaks against his statement in the newspaper articles that he only met his wife in 1919. The names of his parents are apparently Ned (Edward) and Martha , so that there would be a similarity between his eldest son and his father. The available data show varying ages regarding Mat (t) hew Beard as well as his wife and children and speak in favor of an exaggeration of age instead of the correctness of a year of birth 1870. It is not unlikely that the state of birth given in the Florida census in 1945 is correct and Mat (t) hew Beard as a child of Edward and Martha Beard in October 1886 was born, so rather 16 years younger than was claimed, and Angerine Brooks in March 1912 in Marion County (a neighbor County of Sumter) has married .  
2. ↑ Peters was considered by the Guinness Book of Records . No documents supporting the age assertion are known. If they ever existed, they are considered lost. The case is therefore considered dubious and has so far eluded confirmation or refutation. A person named Thomas Peters is registered in Arnhem with a death date of March 26, 1857 : [7] .
