Alexander Imich

Alexander Imich (born February 4, 1903 in Częstochowa , Russian Empire , † June 8, 2014 in New York City ) was a Polish-American parapsychologist and supercentenarian .

Life

Imich was born in 1903 to a Jewish family in the Weichselland . At the end of the First World War in 1918, he and his school class joined the Polish troops at the age of 15. Imich also served in the Polish-Soviet War from 1919 to 1921 . Their use lasted until the Bolsheviks were pushed back. During this time he learned to drive a truck, as his older brother was employed in the automotive industry. Imich studied at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków and received a doctorate in zoology , after which he switched to chemistry .

In the 1920s and 1930s he conducted research for the Polish Society for Mental Research on a " medium " called Matylda. In 1932 he published a report on this in the German magazine for parapsychology ; all unpublished materials were lost during World War II .

He and his wife Wela fled to Soviet-occupied Białystok during the war . Because both of them refused to accept Soviet citizenship, they were sent to a labor camp . After their liberation both emigrated to the USA in 1952 . They moved to New York. After the death of his wife in 1986, he took up his interest in parapsychology again. He published numerous papers in this field in magazines. In 1995 he published a book on the subject. He served as President of Anomalous Phenomena Research in New York.

Alexander Imich lived in Manhattan , New York State, and was considered the oldest living man since the death of the Italian Arturo Licata (1902–2014) . He died on June 8, 2014 at the age of 111 years and 124 days.
