Silanus is an Italian municipality in the province of Nuoro in Sardinia , about 13 km east of Macomer near the state road SS 129 and about 40 km from Nuoro . The village at the foot of Monte Arbo has 2060 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is 432 m above sea level.
Sights in town and its surroundings include:
- the Cistercian church of San Lorenzo in the 12th century. In her garden there are five baityloi that come from a nearby giant grave .
- the 12.6 m high Nuraghe Madrone in the east of the village with two intact cantilever domes
- Unparalleled in Sardinia is the 11th century church of Santa Sarbana near Silanus (also called Santa Sabina) on the SS 129 state road, next to the nuraghe of the same name . It consists of a mixture of Byzantine and more recent Romanesque forms. The three-part elevation is reminiscent of early Christian baptismal churches with an attached consignatory and vestibule . The right side room was reconstructed in 1935, the church was renovated in the 1990s. Excavations did not reveal any older finds.
There are traces of giant graves , the Nuraghe Ortu and the fountain sanctuary di Cherchizzu. The basalt plateau south of Silanus is also rich in hard-to-find nuraghi (Corbus, Ponte, Cubas with five baityloi in the area and S'Ulivera ).
