Werner Bunz

Werner Bunz (* 1926 ; † July 1, 2009 in Hamburg ) was a German graphic artist and letter artist in Hamburg.

Life

Werner Bunz studied at the State Academy in Stuttgart as a student of Prof. Friedrich Hermann Ernst Schneidler .

As a professor at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg he headed from 1954 to 1991 the class for writing . Numerous study visits have taken him to the Vatican Library , the German Archaeological Institute in Rome and the British Museum in London .

In 1970 he received the Edwin Scharff Prize .

He was married to the photographer and painter Agathe Bunz († 2006), with whom he also worked on joint publications. Particularly noteworthy is the book Olive trees with olive tree photos by Agathe Bunz and woodcuts with Bible texts by Werner Bunz.

Werner Bunz was less known to the public for his postal works ( Mail Art ), to which a comprehensive exhibition in Basel was dedicated for the first time in 2006 . Some large-format letter graphics can be seen in the Zwang gallery in Hamburg .
