The municipality is located about 15 kilometers south-southwest of Tortolì on the Tyrrhenian Sea . The Pelau flows through the municipality . The main town is located several kilometers from the associated beach sections Foddini , Museddu and Perde Pera , which form an almost five kilometers long, several dozen meters wide, sandy beach that is protected by an almost continuous pine forest or in the river area by an extensive reed area. To the south, the foothills of the characteristic Monte Arista with its reddish rock push in a locking bar towards the sea, which is replaced by the slightly stony, shorter beach section La Spiaggetta towards Marina de Gairo (coastal enclave of Gairo). To the south, the municipality extends to Monte Ferru and Punta Ingannadori . The western boundary of the municipality is Strada Statale 125 Orientale Sarda from Cagliari to Palau .

history

In addition to several more or less well-preserved nuraghi , the Domus de Janas from Monte Arista , which indicate an early settlement, have been preserved in the community.

Today's place is relatively young, the predecessor community Gairo Vecchio was almost completely destroyed by a flood in 1951. From 1966 the community in the Valle del Pardu was rebuilt.

The place is divided into the main town Cardedu , in the southern part of Perdu Pili , which lies to the east of the beach, Buoncammino and the coastal parts of Museddu and Sa Perde Pera .

The place is known from the artist Maria Lai , who has spent long periods of time in Cardedu since childhood and died here in 2013. On a hill about 700 meters west of Foddini Beach is the Observatoriu Buoncammino on a small hill.
