Lula: Sagra di San Francesco

Lula is an Italian commune in the province of Nuoro in the Sardinia region with 1,318 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Lula is 36 km northeast of Nuoro .

The neighboring communities are: Bitti , Dorgali , Irgoli , Loculi , Lodè , Onani , Orune and Siniscola .

The shepherd's village lies below the two highest peaks of the Monte Albo massif (1127 m) and was inhabited as early as the Neolithic Age, as shown by numerous nuraghi and domus de Janas in the area. Also the museum mine Sos Enattos and other disused mountain workshops where earlier galena was funded are to visit nearby.
The place is well known for its nine-day pilgrimage Sagra di San Francesco di Lula in early May. The faithful make a pilgrimage to the San Francesco Church on Monte Creia . There they are provided with the strong soup “su filineddu”, a sheep broth with pecorino, from the volunteer “priores” . During the nine days, however, not only trade fairs , but also socializing (competitions, choir singing, dances, arts and crafts markets ) take place. The festival ends with a sumptuous meal in the open air.
