Serra Orrios ( Italian Villagio di Serra Orrios ), 10 km from Dorgali , in the province of Nuoro in Sardinia , is the largest Nuragic settlement on the island. It is not a complex that has formed around a large nuraghi , as in the Arrubiu nuraghi or Su Nuraxi . The Oveni and Noriolo nuraghi are 500 meters away. There is a giant grave 100 m away from the settlement .

The area enclosed by a taller peribolos , the so-called fairground and two megaron temples are the outstanding relics. The remains of over 70 stone round huts, which are mostly only preserved as foundation walls, are grouped next to one another on the basalt plateau , around small inner courtyards with fountains, cisterns or stoves and fireplaces.

The local megaron temples are peculiar. It is believed that the Megaron B, located within the 40 m wide round Temenos , served the village cult, while the poorly preserved Megaron A, whose peribolos has largely disappeared, near the round huts, could have been intended for pilgrims from the area.

The excavation finds from the years 1936–38 are in the Dorgali Museum. These are pottery from the Bonnanaro culture and its successors from the 16th to the 8th centuries BC. A mold made of steatite , bronze jewelry and utensils. These include oil lamps , vases, pintaderen with geometric decorations, a large number of bowls, cups and pots with or without handles, loom weights and spindle whorls . Part of the fertility cult is a small, only 23 cm high, phallic stone baitylos , which was found in 1986 during the maintenance work in the village.

Multilingual tours take place on the hour. Entry is required.

The complex is divided into:

  • 1. the Peribolus with the Megaron temple B
  • 2. the Megaron temple A
  • 3. the center of the hut area
  • 4. the place of the cistern
  • 5. the remote row of huts
  • 6. the "Capanna delle Riunioni"
