The Roman Catholic Diocese of Lanusei ( lat. : Dioecesis Oleastrensis ) is an on Sardinia located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Lanusei . It belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Cagliari in the ecclesiastical region of Sardinia and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Cagliari . The cathedral is dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene.

history

The Diocese of Lanusei was founded on November 8, 1824 as the Diocese of Ogliastra. On September 30, 1986 the seat of the diocese was moved to Lanusei and the diocese was renamed. Pope Francis united the Diocese of Lanusei on April 9, 2020 in persona episcopi with the Diocese of Nuoro . The bishop of Nuoro, Antonio Mura , who was bishop of Lanusei from 2014 to 2019, was appointed joint bishop .
