history
Ramsau is first mentioned in a tradition from Baumburg Abbey from 1147 to 1156 as " Ramsowe ", and Ramsberg is first mentioned in 1350. The name Ramsau is derived from a field name that occurs frequently in the Alpine region and means "Raben-Au". The settlement development was slow towards the end of the 13th century.
In the 16th century, Protestant doctrine had spread widely on the Ramsberg and in Ramsau through the miners of the nearby Zell gold mining. In 1837, however, 102 Protestants from Ramsau - part of the Zillertal inclinants - were forced to emigrate to Prussian Silesia , and a much smaller group was forced to move to Styria .
In the 19th century Ramsberg became a political municipality. After the Second World War, the focus of community life shifted to Ramsau, which expanded significantly. Therefore, in 1978 the community name was changed from Ramsberg to Ramsau.
