AL-KO Kober SE, founded in 1931 and headquartered in Kötz , Bavaria, is an international technology group and provider in the fields of garden tools , automotive and ventilation technology . Over 1500 people are employed at locations around the world. In 2017, the company generated sales of over 300 million euros.

Company history

In 1931 Alois Kober (1908–1996) founded the company as a small blacksmith's shop in Großkötz . 1952 began the development and series production of handbrake levers. In the course of the following three years, the production of lawn mowers , axles and frame chassis for caravans started. The first subsidiary was founded in 1958 and the sons Kurt (1936–2015), Willy and Herbert Kober , all of whom were apprenticed to their father, took on joint responsibility. 1975 saw the entry into ventilation technology. On January 1, 1987, the company was transferred to AL-KO KOBER AG , with the three brothers as board members. From the third generation, Raymond and Stefan Kober are active in the management of the company.

On May 23, 2013, the stock corporation under German law was converted into a stock corporation under European law ; It was the AL-KO KOBER SE . In 2014, the chainsaw and garden equipment division of Solo Kleinmotoren GmbH was taken over .

At the end of 2015, the vehicle technology division was merged with the US axle manufacturer Dexter Axle from Elkhart (Indiana) . Since then, AL-KO Vehicle Technology has been part of DexKo Global Inc. Before the split, the AL-KO Group had 4,000 employees worldwide in 2013 and achieved an annual turnover of around 700 million euros. The vehicle technology division was the largest of the three pillars in the company. The number of employees and sales of the remaining parts of the company were together lower than for the separated vehicle technology.

A new automotive division was established in 2017 through the acquisition of the majority shares in Mettec-Holding GmbH and Prinz Kinematics GmbH .

In 2017, Raymond and Stefan Kober founded Primepulse SE in Munich together with Cancom founder Klaus Weinmann to bundle their entrepreneurial activities. Since then, AL-KO has been part of the PrimePulse network.

The garden technology area is divided into lawn technology & maintenance, garden & home improvement technology, water & pond technology and winter technology. Motorized garden tools such as lawn mowers , lawn tractors, robotic lawn mowers , hedge trimmers , chainsaws and pumps are manufactured here.

AL-KO Therm GmbH

In the field of ventilation and air conditioning , AL-KO manufactures modular air and air conditioning units for different areas of application. In the field of suction technology, mobile and stationary suction systems are produced.

AL-KO Automotive

The products from the automotive sector include the manufacture and processing of various metals, pressed parts, hinges and welded assemblies for the automotive industry.
