Schlitters is a municipality with 1517 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Zillertal and belongs to the Schwaz district in Tyrol ( Austria ). The community is located in the judicial district of Zell am Ziller .
geography
The clustered village Schlitters is located on the Murkegel of the Öxlbach in the lower Zillertal. The municipality also includes the Schlitterberg district, about 400 m above, to be reached from Rotholz in the Inn Valley.

history
The place name is traced back to a pre-Roman settlement. Schlitters was first mentioned in records in the archbishopric church of Salzburg as " Slitteres in Cilari valleę " in the year 931. From the 15th to the 17th century, in the heyday of Schwaz mining, miners mined for silver, copper and mineral paints in the Schlitterberg area Malachite and azurite. A fish pond created in the 16th century is now a swimming lake.

The municipal coat of arms, awarded in 1956, shows a stylized silver sleigh in a red field. This is the seal of the Knights von Schlitters, who died out in 1275, which also serves as a talking coat of arms .
Culture and sights
economy
Intensive agriculture is practiced on the flat valley floor, there are also several businesses and a large number of commuters.
In March 2018, a cheese slicer of 10 small dairies is to go into operation.
traffic
Schlitters is connected to public transport via the Zillertalstrasse and the Zillertalbahn with one stop. A cycle path towards Mayrhofen leads past the Schlitterer See .
