history

Listed half-timbered house, Erbsengasse 10

The place was, as archaeological finds testify, settled as early as the Neolithic . The first documentary mention took place in the year 884. 1356 the castle was mentioned for the first time. It was rebuilt in 1710. 60 years later the church got a new nave and the tower was raised. Until 1820, Ober-Rosbach and Nieder-Rosbach together formed the Rosbach office , first in the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt , then in the Grand Duchy of Hesse . The Friedrichsdorf – Friedberg railway line with Rosbach vd Höhe station was opened in 1901. In 1913 the moated castle became the property of the municipality.

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse on December 1, 1970, the community Nieder-Rosbach was incorporated into the city of Ober-Rosbach on a voluntary basis and at the same time the name of the city was officially changed to Rosbach .

Nieder-Rosbach is one of the closed, formerly fortified villages in the Wetterau and is a listed building as a whole . See the list of cultural monuments in Nieder-Rosbach .

Nieder-Rosbach moated castle

Moated castle from the south-east

There is an old moated castle in the village . The castle's origins date back to the 13th century when it was the seat of the Lords of Carben . From 1503 to 1816 it was owned by the von Greiffenclau zu Vollrads family . In 1710 the new mansion was built, which is still standing today.

This building, which was renovated in 2011, has two floors above a high base. The base and the first floor are built in solid construction, the second floor in half-timbered construction . The moat around the building has been partially restored at the south-east corner and is crossed by a three-arched quarry stone bridge that provides access to the main entrance.

The back of the building, which is owned by the city of Rosbach, has modern lifts. It is used as a public meeting place.

In front of the moated castle, there is another square that is used as a festival area. He also creates the castle / church line of sight. The building of the former Nieder-Rosbach primary school, which is now used as a village community center, is also located on this square . Originally this building was the water castle's economic courtyard.

church

church

At the location of today's evangelical "castle church", a previous church, which was consecrated to St. Anne , stood in front of its building . While it was initially a branch church and was subordinate to the mother church in Straßheim , it became a parish church itself before the Reformation of 1533.

The dilapidated old church was demolished. The present church was built from 1772 to 1774. The only remaining part of the old church was the Gothic church stump, which was supplemented by a wooden structure of three "Welschen hoods".

The new structure was larger than the old church. The total height of the tower is 34.5 meters. The church has a total length of 22.6 meters. The ship alone is 13.15 meters high and 10.3 meters wide. The church is a Protestant hall building with galleries . The ceiling is decorated with stucco work by Peter Wilhelm Rossbach from Ober-Rosbach.

The first organ dates from 1702. The case of the organ was also used by the successor organ. In 1927 the defective organ was removed and a new one from the organ building company Förster & Nicolaus from Lich was installed.

The oldest of the three bells dates from 1756. The other bells were melted down during the First and Second World Wars and replaced by newly cast bells in 1949.

Next to the church is the former parish barn, which is now used as a community center.

Rewe's central warehouse

The traditional Rosbacher Mineralwasserquelle is located in the village. Since 2001 the company belongs to the Hassia mineral springs . There is also a large central warehouse and administration building of REWE Deutscher Supermarket KGaA (which can be seen from afar due to the striking red building) .
