The Falkenhütte (sometimes also Adolf-Sotier-Haus ) is an Alpine Club hut of the Oberland section of the German Alpine Club at 1,848  m above sea level. A. directly north above the Spielissjoch ( 1773  m above sea level ). The hut is scheduled to reopen on August 28, 2020 after almost three years of general renovation.

location

The stately refuge is located in the Falkengruppe in the Karwendel in Tyrol (federal state) opposite the northern slopes of the Lalidererspitze and between the small and large Ahornboden . Because of the location and the extensive tour options, the hut is an excellent base for mountaineers on tours lasting several days, for example longer crossings of the Karwendel. In addition, day guests can also cope with the route from the Eng to the hut and descend again on the same day after a rest. The Falkenhütte is primarily an important base on the Via Alpina long-distance hiking trail , which leads in the Karwendel from Scharnitz to Lake Achensee . In winter there is an unlocked, heated room for ski tourers in the adjacent building, but conditions must be safe from avalanches in order to be able to undertake worthwhile ski tours in the vicinity of the hut.

The Falkenhütte is located north of the Spielissjoch
On the road to the hut in Johannestal

building

The hut was built between 1921 and 1923 on the initiative of the chairman of the Oberland section, Adolf Sotier. It is a two-storey, shingled wooden building with a rectangular floor plan, with a base storey built from rubble stones, a single- storey bay window and a steep pitched roof with a small roof house. On the south-western side of the eaves there is a three-axis shingle extension with a gable roof, placed across the main house. A large terrace is located in front of the southeast side. The interior is accessed through a paneled corridor in the south-western part of the house and a staircase on the west side. The building has been a listed building since 2016 . On September 11, 2017, the hut ceased operations due to a general renovation, which is expected to last until the end of August 2020 and will cost around 6.4 million euros. It was decided to mix old and new elements.
