The Karwendelhaus is an Alpine Club hut belonging to the German Alpine Club at 1771 m above sea level. A. Höhe (according to other information 1765 m above sea level ) not far from the Hochalmsattel with a view of the Karwendel valley below . The shelter, built in 1908, is located in the middle of the Karwendel in Tyrol , not far from the border with Bavaria . Because of its central location and the numerous tour options, the hut is an important base for mountaineers on multi-day tours, for example longer Karwendel crossings, but also many summit climbs. The hut is also a popular destination for mountain bikers, who can drive from Scharnitz or Hinterriß over gravel paths to the Karwendelhaus. The hut is closed in winter, but there is an unlocked, heated room for ski tourers in the adjacent building. In avalanche-safe conditions, high-alpine ski tours can be undertaken on the surrounding peaks, but these invariably require solid alpine experience.
history
The Karwendelhaus was opened in 1908 after five years of construction. In 1928 the first system for power supply was set up with the help of a simple electrical works, which was modernized from 1964 to 1968. In 1977 the top floor was expanded to create more overnight accommodation. In the course of the 1990s, various renovation work was finally carried out and a fully biological sewage treatment plant was built near the hut. In 2005 the newly built winter house was opened, which in winter offers ski tourers (while the Karwendel house is closed) overnight accommodation with up to 24 beds.
