The Pleisenhütte , built by Toni Gaugg in the early 1950s, is a privately run refuge at 1757  m above sea level. A. southwest below the Pleisenspitze and high above the village of Scharnitz with a view of the peaks of the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains . This means that the hut is located in the westernmost part of the Karwendel in Tyrol, not far from the border with Bavaria .

Because of the panoramic location and the tour options, the hut is a base for mountaineers on multi-day tours, for example longer Karwendel crossings ( Toni-Gaugg-Höhenweg to Karwendelhaus), but also when climbing many peaks.

history

The builder of the hut, Toni Gaugg, known as Pleisentoni, who died on February 1, 2007 at the age of 88, was legendary . He was the senior innkeeper of the Pleisenhütte and was known as the " Luis Trenker des Karwendels". He is buried next to the hut by the chapel. After Pleisentoni came home from captivity in World War II , he realized his lifelong dream of building a mountain hut on his favorite mountain, the Pleisen. At that time there was no paved path up and the felling of wood on the Pleisen was prohibited for nature conservation reasons. So Pleisentoni brought up all the building materials that he couldn't find on site himself - initially on foot. He later owned a Unimog . At the beginning of the 1980s, the Pleisenhütte was expanded. Today his son Siggi runs the hut. Anton Gaugg was also a cave explorer. He found in 1951 in the Vorderkarhöhle a 7,000 to 8,000 year-old skeleton of a Elchkalbes . This is unique because of its conservation.

Access

  • From Scharnitz via the Hüttenweg, easy, walking time: 3 hours (only accessible for experienced mountain bikes; the path is wide and paved, but in large parts it is very steep and full of scree). Up to an hour in front of the hut there are many springs and watercourses with drinking water.

Transitions

  • Karwendelhaus via Hinterkar, Breitgrieskar, Marxenkar and Brendelsteig, high alpine, only for experienced, walking time approx. 8 hours
Note: The path to the Karwendelhaus ( Toni-Gaugg-Höhenweg ) runs through the Breitgrieskar , among other places, where there is a Spartan bivouac box . This crossing requires very good stamina and stamina as well as safe path and weather conditions. It is only reserved for those who are sure-footed and have a head for heights and have alpine experience. A key point is the ascent to the Brendelsteig (descent to the Karwendelhaus ).

Mountaineering

  • Pleisenspitze ( 2569  m above sea level ) through the Vorderkar and over the Hinteren Pleisengrat, easy, walking time: 2½ hours (in winter as a ski tour and snowshoe tour).
  • The Larchetkarspitze ( 2541  m above sea level ) over the Mitterkar is only suitable as a ski tour in winter because of its fragility.
