The eastern Karwendelspitze is 2537 m above sea level. A. high mountain made of Wetterstein limestone in the Karwendel on the border between Bavaria and Tyrol . It is the highest mountain in the northern Karwendel range and at the same time the highest German peak in the Karwendel. The first ascent was made by Hermann von Barth on July 4, 1870.
Climbs
The summit can be reached in 2.5 hours from the Karwendelhaus ( 1771 m above sea level ) on a mountain tour that is partly pathless and requires alpine experience . The ascent takes place over a grass and craggy ridge east of the Vogelkars , shortly below the summit a climbing point of the I. UIAA grade has to be overcome. Alternatively, the more challenging descent over the Grabenkar through steep rock and rubble terrain (I) with a fast rubble descent . The Karwendelhaus in turn can be reached either from Scharnitz or from Hinterriß via the Kleiner Ahornboden . Because of the long valley hike to the Karwendelhaus, a two-day tour is more sensible than a 10.5-hour day tour.
The eastern Karwendelspitze is also often climbed through the Grabenkar on skis in spring. In winter this is usually not possible due to the high avalanche danger and the long distances.
