The Birkkarspitze is a summit of the Hinterautal-Vomper chain and forms at 2749 m above sea level. A. the highest elevation of the Karwendel . Together with the three Ödkar peaks , it forms a mighty massif in the center of the Karwendel.
The first ascent took place on July 6th, 1870 by Hermann von Barth (report see web links).
The Birkkarspitze can be climbed from the Karwendelhaus in two to three hours through thelauchkar and over thelauchkarsattel ( 2635 m above sea level ). A few meters east of the Schlauchkarsattels is the Birkkarhütte ( 2640 m above sea level. A. ), a bivouac , from an insured trail leads to the summit. As an alternative, if the weather conditions are stable, experienced mountaineers can take the longer route over the insured Brendelsteig and the three Ödkar peaks. An ascent from the south from the Hinterautal is possible through the Birkkarklamm and the western Birkkar.
The Birkkarbach rises south of the Birkkarspitze from the tributaries of the western Birkkar and the eastern Birkkar. After crossing the Birkkarklamm it flows into the Lafatscher Bach in the Hinterautal and together with it forms the young Isar .
geology
The summit area of the Birkkarspitze consists of Wetterstein limestone from the Upper Triassic with Dasycladaceae - these are marine algae whose habitat was flat lagoons in tropical climates.
