The Birkkarhütte is an unstaffed shelter of Category I owned the section Men's gymnastics club Munich of the German Alpine Club .
location
The hut is located on the Schlauchkarsattel ( 2623 m above sea level ) in the Hinterautal-Vomper chain of the Karwendel Mountains at an altitude of 2635 m above sea level. A. between the Birkkarspitze and the Eastern Ödkarspitze .
history
As early as 1913, the building materials for a small hut were deposited on a yoke between the Birkkarspitze and the Ödkarspitze. Due to the First World War , however, the hut could not be built until autumn 1919. The inauguration, originally planned for All Saints' Day in 1919, had to be postponed to spring 1920 due to heavy snowfall.
In the original hut, the lounge was separated from the entrance door by a small vestibule and double wooden cladding was attached, which should ensure relatively high temperatures even in windy weather. The hut also had padded sleeping boards and blankets.
In 2001 the desolate hut was completely renovated. The new hut was also built using solid wood.
