The Riss valley , also Rissbachtal , is drained by the Rissbach and is considered to be one of the most beautiful valleys of the Karwendel . The Großer Ahornboden , a high mountain valley floor with old maple trees, is particularly worth seeing . However, the young Rißbach was forced into a narrow, artificial bed for several kilometers there. In September 2014, extensive renaturation measures aimed at restoring the original condition of the Rissbach as part of a two-year project were completed.

The Riss valley is largely natural, but crossed by a road that is used by many day vacationers, especially from the greater Munich area , to reach the heart of the Karwendel Alpine Park by car. As a result, the Eng has developed into a tourism center with a large car park and large restaurant. To the east of Hinterriß is the toll station, where a fee has to be paid during the opening times of the road in the Eng from the beginning of May to the end of October. The road is closed in winter. From mid-May to early November, the so-called Bergsteigerbus (RVO line 9569) runs from Lenggries (connection to the Bayerische Oberlandbahn ) with stops at all inns and hikers' parking lots in the valley to the Eng.
