Selma Yildirim (born August 25, 1969 in Istanbul ) is an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). Since 2014 she has been Deputy Federal Party Chairwoman and Deputy Federal Women's Chairwoman of the SPÖ. She was sworn in as a member of the National Council on November 9, 2017 .

Life

Selma Yildirim attended elementary school in Basi in Turkey from 1976 to 1978 , from 1978 to elementary school in Jenbach in Tyrol and from 1980 to the local secondary school. From 1985 to 1987 she graduated from the federal commercial school in Schwaz . She then worked as a commercial clerk. In 1995 she passed the university entrance examination. From 1997 to 2005 she was a lecturer at the Academy for Social Work of Caritas Innsbruck . In 2001 she began studying law at the University of Innsbruck , which she completed in 2005 with a thesis entitled Attempted Determination of Abuse of Office as a Magistra. In 2006 she was a lecturer at the Management Center Innsbruck and a legal intern at the Innsbruck Higher Regional Court , and since 2007 she has been working at the Innsbruck tax office. From 2009 to 2015 she was a member of the supervisory board of the Tyrolean non-profit housing construction and settlement company (TIGEWOSI).

politics

Since 2000 she has been a member of the SPÖ, since 2001 a member of the district women's board and the district board of the SPÖ Innsbruck . From 2006 to 2008 and from October 1, 2016 to May 24, 2018, she was a councilor in Innsbruck, where she was a substitute councilor from 2012 to 2016. Since September 2012 she has been the district chairwoman of the SPÖ Innsbruck, since June 2014 she has been the regional women's chairwoman of the SPÖ Tirol. Since November 2014, she has been a member of the SPÖ's Federal Party Executive and Women's Executive and Presidium as Deputy Federal Party Chairwoman and Deputy Federal Women's Chairwoman. In the National Council election in 2017 , she ran as the top candidate for the Tyrolean SPÖ.

In April 2017 she was proposed by the Personnel Senate as the new federal finance judge at the Innsbruck branch. At the beginning of 2018, the second ranked candidate was nominated for members of the National Council due to an incompatibility regulation.

In the SPÖ parliamentary club , she acts as the area spokesperson for justice in the 27th legislative period .
