Paul Kießling
Johann Paul Adolf Kießling (also Kiessling, born January 8, 1836 in Breslau , † January 10, 1919 in Dresden ) was a German history, genre and portrait painter
Paul Kießling studied from 1851 at the Dresden Art Academy under Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld . His painting " Orpheus and Eurydice " brought him the first prize and a scholarship in 1855, which enabled him to study in Italy from 1857 to 1869. After visiting Naples in 1860, he studied in Antwerp until 1861 and returned to Rome via Paris . In the period from 1869 to 1870 he worked in Berlin , after which he settled in Dresden . In 1881 he was elected an honorary member of the Dresden Academy.
In addition to genre painting, he dealt with history painting with themes from classical mythology and religious themes. His works were influenced by the art of the Nazarenes .
Kießling presented his works a. a. in the Munich Glass Palace and at the exhibition of the century of German art in Berlin in 1906.
