Of the seven basic mandates to be awarded, the SPÖ and ÖVP each achieved one mandate in the regional constituencies of Burgenland North and Burgenland South . In addition to the four basic mandates awarded in the regional constituencies, a mandate from the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) fell in the second preliminary investigation in the regional constituency of Burgenland .

history

After Burgenland only came to Austria in 1921, the Burgenlanders first took part in a National Council election in 1923. With the National Council electoral code of 1923, the constituency of Burgenland (constituency 25) was created, which encompassed the entire state. After the electoral code of 1923 was overruled by the Austrofascist government in 1934, the original allocation of constituencies was reintroduced after the Second World War with the constitutional law of October 19, 1945. The constituency of Burgenland was not affected by the following changes to the National Council electoral regulations, with the National Council electoral regulation in 1971, which reduced the number of constituencies to nine, only the number of the Burgenland constituency changed (now constituency 1). It was not until the National Council electoral code came into force in 1992 that the Austrian federal territory was divided into 43 regional constituencies and a third investigation procedure was introduced, whereby the regional constituency of Burgenland was divided into the regional constituencies of Burgenland North and Burgenland South. The regional constituency of Burgenland subsequently received seven mandates in 1993, whereby the recalculation of the distribution of mandates between the federal states in 2002 (based on the results of the 2001 census) did not result in any change in the regional constituency of Burgenland.
