Martina Diesner-Wais (born February 10, 1968 in Waidhofen an der Thaya ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and agricultural master. She was a member of the Austrian Federal Council from 2003 to 2013 and has been a member of the National Council since 2013 . She is also a councilor for the city of Schrems .

education and profession

Diesner-Wais attended elementary school from 1974 to 1978 and then switched to secondary school from 1978 to 1982. She then graduated from a technical college for economic professions from 1982 to 1985 and began an apprenticeship in agricultural housekeeping in 1985, which she completed in 1987. She also graduated from an agricultural college from 1990 to 1991 and passed the skilled worker examination. In addition, Diesner-Wais attended preparatory courses for the agricultural master’s examination from 1991 to 1993 and in 1993 passed the master’s examination to become an agricultural master. Diesner-Wais has been running an agricultural business since 1997.

Politics and functions

Diesner-Wais began her political career in local politics, where she was elected to the Schrems municipal council in 1990. From 1995 to 2005 she took over the office of city councilor for agriculture and forestry of the municipality of Schrems and in 2005 moved back to the Schrems municipal council. Diesner-Wais is currently city councilor for tourism, maintenance of the townscape, economic affairs, marketing of the industrial area and business park / company settlement. Within the party, she was elected community party chairwoman of the ÖVP Schrems in 1995, before taking over the office of community party leader of the ÖVP Schrems in 2008. In 2004 she also became deputy district party chairman of the ÖVP Schrems. In the agricultural organizations she was already chairwoman of the Austrian Young Farmers 'Union from 1996 to 1999 and from 1990 chairwoman of the district farmers' council of Schrems. In 2005 she also took over the office of the main district farmer's councilor for Schrems. Diesner-Wais has also been the secretary of the regional council of farmers and secretary of the regional council of the Lower Austrian relief organization since 2005.

She was sworn in as a member of the Federal Council on April 24, 2003 and was secretary of the Federal Council from January 1, 2006 to June 30, 2006. She will hold this position again from November 5, 2010. She was also the chairman of the Federal Council's health committee, deputy chairman of the Federal Council's environmental committee, and a member of the family and youth committee.

After the 2013 National Council election , Diesner-Wais moved from the Federal Council to the National Council. She was able to defend her mandate in the 2017 election.

Diesner-Wais is married and has two children.
