Klaus Fürlinger (born June 1, 1965 in Linz ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and lawyer . He has been a member of the Austrian National Council since 2017 . Before that, he was a member of the Federal Council from 2012 to 2017 from the federal state of Upper Austria .

education and profession

Klaus Fürlinger attended the Academic Gymnasium in Linz from 1975 to 1983 and passed his Matura there. From January 1, 1984 to August 31, 1984, he did his military service in Linz- Ebelsberg and subsequently studied law at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz and the Paris-Lodron University in Salzburg from 1984 . In 1991 Fürlinger graduated with the academic degree Mag. Iur. and subsequently worked as a trainee lawyer from 1992 to 1996. He completed his legal practice at the District Court and Regional Court of Linz. In 1995 he successfully passed the bar exam, after which he has been working as a lawyer since 1996. Between 1997 and 1998, Fürlinger also took part in a European law course to become an academic European law expert at the University of Linz.

Politics and functions

Fürlinger was involved during his school days from 1985 to 1987 as regional chairman of the Union of Higher Students in Upper Austria and in 2002 became local party chairman of the ÖVP Römerberg. On November 12, 2009, he was sworn in as the municipal council of the city of Linz and in the same year was elected club chairman of the ÖVP in the Linz municipal council, which he remained until 2012. On July 5, 2012, he also became a member of the Federal Council, initially as a member of the Committee for Education, Art and Culture, as a member of the Committee for Science and Research and as a member of the Federal Council's Equal Treatment Committee. He then worked on the committees for transport, justice and the arts. In the 2017 National Council election , Klaus Fürlinger was able to obtain a basic mandate in the regional constituency of Linz and the surrounding area and move into the National Council through this. As a member of the National Council, he was sworn in on November 9, 2017, and Doris Schulz became his successor in the Federal Council .

Within the party, he is also a member of the City Party Board of the City of Linz and has been a member of the district management of the Austrian Business Association Linz-Stadt since 2006. According to his own statements, his political work focuses on the subjects of justice, teaching and science, business and finance.

Fürlinger has been a member of the regional school board for Upper Austria since 2009. Furthermore, he was involved as secretary at Linz Golf Club Luftenberg and was chairman of the parents' association of the Römerbergschule VS 6 elementary school in Linz. Today he is chairman of the parents' association of the Linz Academic High School. In addition, he is Urphilister and Philistine Senior of the Catholic-Austrian Student Union Nibelungia 1901 in Linz in the MKV . He is also an honorary member of the KÖStV Severina Linz in the ÖCV .

Private

Fürlinger is married and has two children.
