Michael Bernhard (* the 30th April 1981 in Tulln until August 2016 Michael Pock ) is an Austrian politician of NEOS and entrepreneurs. Since 2013 he has been a member of the Austrian National Council , area spokesman for environmental and climate protection, ethnic groups and the family, and chairman of the committee for petitions and citizens' initiatives. Bernhard was the NEOS faction leader in the second and third Eurofighter investigative committees .

Career

Michael Bernhard attended elementary school between 1987 and 1991 and secondary school until 1995. In 1996 he switched to a high school in Vienna, which he did not graduate. Bernhard started his career in the telecommunications industry at European Telecom.

From September 2001 to June 2005 he was active in customer relationship management at UTA Telekom and then worked until August 2010 in the management of outsourcing projects and in research, process & quality management for Tele2 Telecommunication .

Michael Bernhard completed various additional training courses in management, taxation and law and in 2010 successfully passed the university entrance qualification test for "Social and Economic Studies".

Since October 2011 Bernhard has been the managing director and co-owner of global office Franchise AT GmbH , which specializes in call centers, customer care and IT as a business process outsourcing provider. Since September 1, 2015 he has also been a managing partner of Pristis Holding GmbH .

Political career

Michael Bernhard started his political career in 2010 as the campaign manager of the Liberal Forum (LIF) in the context of the state and municipal council elections in Vienna. Subsequently, he was general secretary of the party until 2012. During this phase, the federal spokeswoman Angelika Mlinar carried out the political realignment, while Bernhard initiated the organizational restructuring and debt relief of the party.

The political reorientation of the party resulted in the premature re-election of the Federal Presidium. Michael Bernhard was elected Deputy Chairman of the Liberal Forum on March 3, 2012 as part of a battle vote. From January 15, 2013, he also acted as state spokesman for the Vienna Liberals, taking on the agendas of energy, equal treatment, infrastructure, the environment, transport, telecommunications as well as petitions and citizens' initiatives.

Michael Bernhard ran successfully in the 2013 National Council election for the newly founded NEOS party - Das Neue Österreich und Liberales Forum , an electoral alliance of NEOS, LIF and the Young Liberals (JuLis), and obtained a mandate from the Vienna electoral district .

On October 29, 2013, he was sworn in as a member of the National Council. Bernhard took over the agendas infrastructure, traffic, environment, equal treatment and petitions as area spokesman.

On December 17, 2013 he was elected chairman of the parliamentary committee for petitions and citizens' initiatives. In October 2015, he also took on the role of Family Spokesperson. In the same year, Bernhard passed the equal treatment agendas to Claudia Gamon and Nikolaus Scherak (LGBTI).

In the 2017 National Council election , Michael Bernhard ran again on the federal and Vienna state lists for NEOS and moved into the parliamentary club, which had expanded to ten mandataries . After handing over the traffic, infrastructure and telecommunications agendas to Douglas Hoyos , he was in XXVI. Eurofighter Committee of Inquiry

Michael Bernhard acted as leader of the NEOS faction in the second committee of inquiry to clarify the Eurofighter scandal in the National Council from March 2017.

Due to the early elections to the National Council on October 15, 2017, the U-Committee had to end its work early in September 2017, which is why only two out of four subjects of evidence could be dealt with and only one subject could be completed. This concerned the settlement agreement in 2007, in the course of which three fighter jets were canceled and the delivery of an older series was agreed, and parts of the Eurofighter task force and impermissible payment flows.

In order to clarify the remaining evidence of the payment flows, the information situation at the time of the conclusion of the contract and the fulfillment of the submission and information obligations, Michael Bernhard initiated the XXVI. In the legislative period, the committee of inquiry was successfully continued and was again leader of the NEOS parliamentary group from April 2018 until the committee ended prematurely (due to the new elections) in September 2019.

Other political functions

After the merger of the Liberal Forum with NEOS on January 25, 2014, Michael Bernhard successfully ran as a board member for finance in the NEOS party - The New Austria and Liberal Forum and the NEOS Lab party academy . In 2018 he was re-elected to both functions, and in July 2019 he resigned from the position of finance advisor at the NEOS Lab.

Michael Bernhard has also been a finance officer in the NEOS Parliamentary Club since 2013 .

Private

Bernhard is married to the political scientist Alice Vadrot and lives in Vienna-Alsergrund . He is the father of two children from a previous relationship.
