from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gudrun Veronika Kugler , nee Lang , also known as Kugler-Lang (born November 12, 1976 , Gmunden , Upper Austria ) is a Roman Catholic theologian and lawyer, she is also active as a politician in the ÖVP . She became known as the initiator of the first Catholic marriage platform kathtreff.org and is involved in the life rights movement against abortion , for human rights and on a European level against the equality of homosexual partnerships, against social discrimination and persecution based on Christian belief or other religious affiliations, as well as against human trafficking and the death penalty . In October 2015, after the Vienna election, thanks to a successful preferential vote campaign, she entered the Vienna City Council and State Parliament for the first time . In October 2017, she won a basic mandate in the National Council election in Vienna North due to a strong increase in votes and moved to the National Council , of which she will continue to be a member after the 2019 election .

Career

According to his own statement, Kugler grew up in an anti-religious household and sympathized with the Greens in her youth , while she no longer shares anything with the Greens . After finishing school, she turned to the Christian religion.

Kugler holds a Masters in Law and Women's Rights and a PhD in International Law. In 1999 she became a “Master in Theological Studies on Marriage and Family”.

As founder and first chairwoman of the World Youth Alliance - Europe , she was in Brussels from 2001 to 2004. At the UN, on behalf of the World Youth Alliance (WYA), she helped the 1.5 million young people from 100 countries she represented to have a voice in the EU and UN on human rights issues.

In January 2005, she and her husband founded Kairos-Consulting in Vienna to advise on charitable initiatives.

Kugler initiated the “first Catholic marriage platform on the German-speaking web” www.kathtreff.org together with the Salzburg auxiliary bishop Andreas Laun .

She founded Europe for Christ! , an initiative to encourage Christians, and from the latter the documentation archive of discrimination against Christians in Europe with the internet platform www.intoleranceagainstchristians.eu . There are, for example, cases of religiously motivated physical attacks, vandalism by churches, restrictions on freedom of conscience, "ridicule or mockery of the Christian faith, removal of Christian symbols or a ban on wearing them yourself, as well as attacks on belief in film and television." . As a representative of the documentation archive, she was significantly involved in the first meeting of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights ODIHR on the subject of “Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians” in March 2009. From April 2010 to April 2012, Kugler was a member of the Advisory Panel of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency. Kugler is the only one who systematically documents cases of discrimination on the grounds of Christian belief in the EU. Kugler is quoted as saying that “intolerance against Christians” and “Christianophobia” due to “stigmatization and negative stereotyping” are on the rise. Kugler is also actively campaigning against human trafficking.

From 2008 to 2017 she taught as " Adjunct Professor " at the International Theological Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family in Vienna. She also founded and directed the youth academy at Dr. Karl Kummer Institute . In 2010 she and Denis Borel published the Festschrift Discovery of Friendship in honor of Cardinal Christoph Schönborn's 65th birthday . In 2012, Kugler published the title “Nobody is an island. How to find your partner for life ”.

Political career

In 2005, Kugler stood as a non-party candidate in the local elections in Vienna for the ÖVP on a hopeless place on the list and achieved the most preferential votes after the top candidate Johannes Hahn (currently Austrian EU Commissioner). In this context, anti-abortionists and supporters of the deadline solution accused each other of fundamentalism. In the 2013 National Council elections, Kugler was third in the ÖVP nationwide (first after the top candidates Sebastian Kurz and Michael Spindelegger ). Gudrun Kugler has been chairwoman of the ÖVP women in Vienna's 15th district since 2013. In the 2015 Vienna elections, Kugler ran for 13th place on the ÖVP city election proposal and 1st place on the municipal council list for Penzing and organized a - ultimately successful - preferential voting campaign.

In October 2015, thanks to a successful preferential voting campaign for the ÖVP, Kugler entered the Vienna City Council. There she announced that she would deal primarily with family policy issues. The former head of the ÖVP Vienna, Gabriele Tamandl , protected Kugler from attacks and defamation from political opponents and the media after the election.

In the 2017 National Council election, Kugler was completely surprisingly able to achieve a basic mandate for the ÖVP in her constituency Vienna North with a plus of + 9.5% and therefore belongs to the XXVI. National Council, in which she acts as the area spokesperson for human rights for the ÖVP. In addition, she received the second most constituency preferential votes of all Vienna ÖVP mandataries in this election.

Private life

Gudrun Kugler is married to the historian and former Opus Dei press spokesman Martin Kugler and has four children.
