Andreas Laun
Andreas Laun OSFS (born October 13, 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian religious priest and auxiliary bishop emeritus in Salzburg .
Life
After graduating from the Borromäum grammar school in Salzburg in 1960 , Andreas Laun studied philosophy at the University of Salzburg until 1962 . In 1962 Laun joined the Oblates of St. Francis of Sales and went to Eichstätt for the novitiate . He first studied theology at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and from 1966 to 1970 theology and French at the Swiss University of Friborg . On September 17, 1966, he made his solemn profession . On June 29, 1967, he was ordained a priest in Eichstätt . In the following years he was educator in Ried im Innkreis and Ingolstadt and chaplain in Döbling (Vienna), then from 1989 to 1995 parish moderator. In 1973 Laun received his doctorate in Friborg . A year later he became a research assistant for moral theology at the University of Vienna .
In 1976 he founded the “Foster Family Initiative” from which the “Parents for Children” association was later founded. The main focus of the interdenominational association lies in the support, training and advice of surrogate families, such as foster or adoptive families.
In 1981 , Laun completed his habilitation in moral theology at the University of Vienna. Since 1981 he has been Professor of Moral Theology at the Philosophical-Theological University of Heiligenkreuz . From 1981 to 1987 he was a professor at the Philosophical-Theological University of Benediktbeuern . In 1985 he became rector of the order's own training center in Eichstätt. From 1987 to 1989 he was general secretary of the Vienna Catholic Academy. From 1986 to 1989 he was the spiritual guide of the Catholic Family Work and then until 1995 General Secretary of the Vienna Catholic Academy .
In January 1995 Andreas Laun was appointed auxiliary bishop in Salzburg with the titular bishopric of Libertina by Pope John Paul II . The episcopal ordination received his Archbishop Georg Eder on March 25 of that year in Salzburg Cathedral; Co- consecrators were Jakob Mayr , auxiliary bishop in Salzburg, and Josef Koukl , bishop of Leitmeritz . Bishop Laun's motto is Scio cui credidi (“I know whom I believed”). From 1995 Laun was episcopal vicar for pastoral care in marriage and the family and consultor of the Pontifical Council for pastoral care in health care. He is also a member of the European Society for Theology and the Societas Ethica. He wears the ribbons of the Catholic student association KÖL Leopoldina Vienna in the KÖL and the KÖStV Gaudeamus Wörgl in the MKV .
On October 13, 2017, Laun's 75th birthday, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
Positions
Andreas Laun is counted among the critics and opponents of the incumbent Pope Francis .
Laun fears a future persecution of Christianity in Europe, which could develop from "thinking bans and abstruse anti-discrimination laws". Christians are already "to some extent receiving orders from those anti-clerical circles that have the say in Europe". Laun is against Turkey's accession to the EU , among other things because the country is predominantly Muslim and the country's cultural character does not fit into the European Union.
With regard to the development of species , Laun wrote that belief ultimately only affects the ideological question of whether humans are also in the line of this development. In this context it is important not to confuse the question of whether life has "developed out of" a primordial cell and the question of the cause. The thesis that there are connections between the kinds of life is not the same as the " Darwinian assertion that the kinds were formed by the law of the stronger".
Laun criticized in 2011 in connection with the dismissal of the head Inger pastor Andreas Skoblicki the decision of the Linz Bishop Ludwig Schwarz as "internal church persecution of Christians." Skoblicki had previously been accused of bringing about "sect-like conditions" in his community. Laun later apologized to Bishop Schwarz for this statement.
A few days before the runoff election for the 2016 Austrian presidential election , Laun made a guest post on the internet portal kath.net, recommending Norbert Hofer , the candidate of the FPÖ . Hofer's views are "reasonable and in order"; as the “offer” is, one can only choose Hofer and “pray for him and Austria”. Laun described Alexander Van der Bellen as a “left-wing extremist candidate”. That Christians are ready to vote for a "declared enemy of God and thus also of the Church" who is on the wrong side in "all delicate and dangerous questions, from the protection of life to the question of God to gender " and also to seduce others into doing so, shows "In what condition certain circles in the Church" were. Laun's statements were described as "defamatory" by the Dean of the University of Salzburg. It would "not do justice to the task of a shepherd" to claim the episcopal authority for such statements. Salzburg's Archbishop Franz Lackner criticized that the Catholic Church in Austria did not make any election recommendations “following a longstanding tradition”.
After the attack in Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray , Laun stated that the Koran contained passages that would “approve and even recommend such acts”, even if many Muslims “do not take such passages seriously” and do not follow them. He called for Christians to stop “glossing over” Islam or pretending that Islam is a peace-loving religion. Islam “spread with fire and sword from the start”. What is needed is a Christianity that is aware of Christ. Christians should do everything possible to introduce the Muslims to Jesus Christ, and the state should protect those who want to become Christians.
In October 2016, Laun canceled his participation in the Defenders of Europe congress in Linz after Archbishop Lackner asked him to do so. Launs planned a lecture on the subject of “The Christian Roots of Europe”. Laun said he respected the Archbishop's wishes.
abortion
Laun calls for a ban on abortion . Every woman who gives birth and brings up children should be given decisive support. The so-called deadline solution has changed a lot for the worse, especially in people's consciousness. The people are under the impression that they are masters of life and death. When in Colombia after the multiple abuse of an eleven-year-old girl, in addition to those directly involved in a subsequent abortion, those indirectly involved (such as the legislature) were excommunicated , Laun expressed that this was correct, that it was absurd to believe that one could “do one Somehow cancel or heal trauma through a second trauma ”. On the contrary, the girl was wounded even more and more deeply by the abortion.
homosexuality
Laun sees a "homosexualization of society" going on. God can heal homosexuals, but he never said that this was "the normal case". In 2015, Laun renewed his view that homosexuality is an entirely "changeable" "tendency".
Laun campaigned for a new regulation of § 209 StGB (Austria) . It is "absurd to dismantle the protection of the law and to let pedophile- oriented men 'closer' to their victims".
In 2014, he cited information from the Polish theologian Dariusz Oko against the introduction of an adoption right for homosexual couples. This creates “the next opportunity” for sin, since the risk of abuse is higher than that of heterosexuals. A right of adoption for homosexuals is also misogynistic, since only a woman can give maternal love. Also of child abuse in the Catholic Church was "certainly partly" committed by homosexual pastors. These statements were criticized, for example, by the Salzburg homosexual initiative HOSI .
In 2017, Laun wrote to his virtual circle of friends "Libertina" that in connection with gender , representatives of "gender ideology" claim that the difference between men and women is an invention of the people themselves. However, anyone who points out a difference between men and women are defamed by these representatives with the term “forced heterosexuality”. This is a lie that the devil likes, "that there are somehow disturbed men and women who have anatomically a small deformity or feel a sexual attraction to their own gender". As a result, several SPD MPs filed criminal charges.
Regarding the statements of the German bishops Bode and Marx in January 2018 about the possibility of blessing homosexual partnerships, Laun said that one could ask for God's blessing not only for people, "saints and sinners alike", but also for objects and actions, but not for sin itself. “So one could not inaugurate a brothel, or bless a concentration camp, or weapons that are not exclusively intended for hunting or legitimate defense. It is therefore clear that one must not bless a connection that is sinful, not give the mafia, not give a blessing to associations or institutions that promote and carry out abortion or disseminate anti-faith ideologies, anti-Semitic content and other forms of racial thought. "The Salzburg Archbishop Franz Lackner then stated that Laun's statements made people concerned that the choice of words and comparison were completely inappropriate. It is incomprehensible how one can "bring systematic crimes against humanity in any way in connection with same-sex forms of life".
Regarding the Long Night of Solidarity in Vienna 's St. Stephen's Cathedral , which has been taking place since 2017 and is intended to both remember the victims of HIV / AIDS and collect money for AIDS projects, Laun said at the beginning of December 2019: “That's why my response to this event is at House of God just a big NO. NO and NO again! ”He drew a comparison to“ cleaning the temple ”, when“ Jesus would not tolerate the traders and even the harmless pigeons in the temple ”.
Conspiracy theory on the corona crisis
Together with Catholic clergy, journalists, doctors and lawyers, including the German Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller , Laun is one of the signatories of Carlo Maria Viganò's appeal of May 7, 2020 with the Latin title “Veritas liberabit vos!” ( The truth will liberate you , according to Joh 8,32 EU ), which is described on the internet portal kathisch.de of the German Bishops' Conference as a "conglomerate of conspiracy myths and pseudoscience". The letter complains that under the pretext of the COVID-19 pandemic, the rights and fundamental freedoms of many citizens are "disproportionately and unjustifiably restricted"; Public health should not become an alibi "to free civil authorities from their duty to act wisely for the common good". The text also claims that there are growing doubts about the true risk of contagion from the coronavirus , and the coverage of the pandemic is referred to as " alarmism ". The containment measures taken encouraged the interference of "foreign powers" with serious social and political consequences. There are forces "who are interested in creating panic in the population" and who promote the "isolation of individuals" "in order to be able to manipulate and control them better". This is "the disturbing prelude to the creation of a world government beyond control."
The German Bishops 'Conference distanced himself on May 10, 2020 from the group of signatories to Cardinal Müller, explaining the evaluation of Corona pandemic by the Bishops' Conference differs fundamentally from the published call. Klaus Pfeiffer , Vicar General of the Diocese of Essen , criticized the appeal for spreading “crude conspiracy theories without facts and evidence, combined with right-wing populist fighting rhetoric” and “confused theses that stir up fears, pursue black-and-white thinking, draw bad images of the enemy and promote togetherness poison our societies ”. That has nothing to do with Jesus Christ .
The text was described by various media as absurd and the theses expressed as conspiracy theories .
