Maria Elisabeth Smodics Neumann (* 5. April 1970 in Vienna as Maria Neumann ) is an Austrian politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). She has been a member of the National Council since January 24, 2018 .

Life

education and profession

Maria Smodics-Neumann attended HLMW9 Michelbeuern after compulsory school , where she graduated in 1989 . She then acquired the practical experience required for the master craftsman examination in two Viennese companies and attended the training courses for the ladies’s and men’s master’s examination . In 1992 she passed the master's examination for women and in 1993 the master’s examination for men’s dressmaker. Since 1993 she has been working as an independent master tailor in Vienna and specializes in equipment for tournament dancers , figure skaters and synchronized swimmers . In 2007 she successfully completed a part-time course in Marketing & Sales at the FHWien as a Mag. (FH) with a diploma thesis on the subject of marketing measures for existing small businesses in trade and crafts in discussions with banks . Together with her brother she was active in dance sport, in 1991 and 1993 they won the title of state champion in formation dance / Latin American dances, in 1994 they were Austrian master in standard dance performance class B and in 1996 they were Viennese champions in Latin American dances.

Since 1995 she has been involved in various functions in her interest representation, since 2000 she has been a committee member of the federal guild of Austria for the clothing industry, from 2010 to 2015 she was guild master of the state guild of Vienna for fashion and clothing technology. Since June 2017 she has been the deputy provincial representative of the Vienna Economic Association . Since 2004, she has also been leading the master’s examination preparation courses for women’s and men’s dressmakers at the Institute for Economic Development (WIFI) in Vienna. In 2010 she became the deputy chairwoman of the trade and crafts division of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce , and in 2014 she was elected as the department chairwoman . In 2020 she was confirmed in this position for a term of five years.

In the 2017 National Council election , she ran for the ÖVP in the Vienna electoral district in fourth place on the list. She has been a member of the National Council since January 24, 2018, replacing Karl Mahrer , who accepted a mandate on the federal list that became vacant through the formation of the Federal Government Brief I. In the 2019 National Council election she ran again on the fourth list of the ÖVP Vienna.
