Walter Bacher (born September 2, 1962 in Mittersill ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 2013 to 2019 he was a member of the National Council .

Life

Bacher attended elementary and secondary school in Uttendorf from 1968 to 1976. In 1976 he worked in communications technology in St. Pölten . From 1977 to 1980 he attended vocational school and learned to be a locksmith and blacksmith . In 1981 he did his military service in the armed forces. In 1989 he became head of department in the staff office of the Kaprun glacier lifts .

He is a councilor of the Salzburg Chamber of Labor and a member of the board of the vida union . Since 2012 he has been chairman of the SPÖ district party in Pinzgau . In 1999 he was elected to the community council of von Uttendorf .

From 2013 he was a member of the National Council (XXV. GP) for the constituency 5C - Lungau / Pinzgau / Pongau and belonged to the Social Democratic parliamentary group there. In the legislative period from 2013 to 2017 , he was a member of the Consumer Protection Committee, the Tourism Committee, the Transport Committee and the sub-committee of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

After the 2017 National Council election , Walter Bacher retained his mandate on the National Council and was part of the Immunity Committee. After the National Council election in 2019 , he resigned from the National Council.
