Gabriel Obernosterer

Gabriel Obernosterer (born May 13, 1955 in Lesachtal , Carinthia ) is an Austrian hotelier, politician ( ÖVP ), member of the National Council and a former natural track tobogganist .

education and profession

Obernosterer attended the Liesing-Lesachtal elementary school from 1961 to 1966 and the secondary school in St. Lorenzen-Lesachtal from 1966 to 1967. Obernosterer then attended the secondary school in Klagenfurt from 1967 to 1970 and then learned to be a car mechanic from 1970 to 1974.

Obernosterer started his own business in 1977 with an inn. Between 1977 and 1980 he was the managing director of Wienerwald Munich . His family business now includes an inn, a holiday village and the Alm-Wellnesshotel Tuffbad. In 2006 Obernosterer employed around 50 people in the Lesach Valley. In 2006 he was appointed to the Commercial Council.

Sports

Obernosterer was a member of the Austrian national natural track luge team for four years. He achieved his greatest international successes together with Anton Obernosterer in a two-seater. They won the European Cup in 1971 and finished second at the European Championships in 1971 and 1973 .

politics

Obernosterer was a councilor in the Lesachtal community from 1985 to 1997 and has been a member of the economic parliament of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce since 1995 . From 1995 to 2006 Obernosterer was division chairman of the Carinthian Chamber of Commerce in the tourism and leisure sector. Since 2005 he has been deputy chairman of the tourism and leisure industry sector. From 1998 to 2006 he was a member of the Carinthian Economic Development Fund.

Obernosterer is the property representative of Kärntner Werbung. Since October 30, 2006 he has been a member of the National Council and since 2007 deputy chairman of the tourism committee.

On July 25, 2012, Josef Martinz resigned as chairman of ÖVP Carinthia in the wake of the scandal surrounding the sale of Hypo Group Alpe Adria , and Obernosterer was appointed as the new chairman on the same day. - He was replaced by Christian Benger in March 2014 .

Others

On January 20, 2009, the parliament lifted the immunity due to a procedure on suspicion of false testimony in the committee of inquiry into the Carinthian advertising 2008. In the first instance, Obernosterer was sentenced to a fine of 15,000 euros on May 11, 2010. However, the Graz Higher Regional Court acquitted him in the subsequent appeal hearing on March 30, 2011.
