Ernst Fredrik Wilhelm Meyer

Ernst Fredrik Wilhelm Meyer (born December 5, 1847 in Karlshamn ; † January 19, 1925 ) was a Swedish wholesaler and politician . He was Sweden's Minister of Finance from 1902 to 1905 .

Meyer came from a wealthy family from Karlshamn and studied economics in Dresden from 1862 to 1865 . In 1870 he worked in the family business Winberg & Meyer . Meyer became a partner in the company in 1874 and later became director of the Karlshamn alcohol distillery. From 1876 to 1883 he was British Vice Consul in the city.

From 1885 to 1902 he was Karlshamn's leading local politician and mayor of the city. From 1882 to 1885 he was a member of the Reichstag in the second chamber. From 1882 to 1884 he represented the constituencies of Karlshamn and Sölvesborg , and later also Ronneby . He was non-party in 1882 and was center right between 1883 and 1885. From 1897 it belonged to the free trade-friendly center. He was a member of the grant committee from 1887, again from 1898 to 1902. Meyer also dealt with constitutional issues.

In the second cabinet of Erik Gustaf Boström he was finance minister from 1902 to 1905, also in 1905 under Boström's successor Lundeberg . He was then Sweden's consul general in Copenhagen (1905) and Helsinki (1906–1907).
