Ronneby's motto is "The modern health resort".
history
The grave fields of Edestad and Nötanabben point to traces of early history .
In the 13th century, Ronneby was Blekinge's largest city , which belonged to Denmark until the Peace of Roskilde in 1658 , and was the regional center of trade with the Hanseatic League. In 1564 there was a bloody battle between the Danish and Swedish armies here. In the battle that was part of the Three Crown War , the Swedish King Erik XIV was able to conquer the city on September 4th, after which he killed many residents and burned the place down. After Blekinge's annexation in 1658, Sweden established the main base of the navy in nearby Karlskrona and revoked Ronneby from city rights in favor of Karlskrona. As a result, Ronneby lost its importance.
In the 18th century, some industrial plants were built in Ronneby and the place grew again. After it was discovered in 1775 that the water sources are rich in iron, Ronneby developed into one of the most important Swedish spa towns. In 1864 there was another devastating fire in Ronneby, after which the place was rebuilt.

Buildings
The Heliga Kors kyrka (Holy Cross Church) from the 12th century is probably the city's oldest attraction. During the Three crown war took place in September 1564 to Ronnebyer bloodbath: Many residents took refuge in the church, because they hoped that a holy house would not be attacked. This hope was in vain; the troops entered the church with axes, halberds, etc. and killed everyone who was in it. The deep notches in the old, heavy oak door attached to the north wall bear witness to the forced entry.
Pulpit and altar are ornate wood carvings from the 17th century. The church is decorated with frescoes, which are best preserved on the ceiling of the choir. They show, among other things, a bound, blindfolded man who is attracted with ropes by various forces (greed for money, lust for the flesh, devil, death), but who - as far as he can - turns to Jesus Christ.
Parks
The spa park Brunnspark is located 15 minutes south of the city. It has a well-tended garden area with a waterfall, a lake landscape and lush purple and white flowering rhododendrons and a mountainous forest area with a walking path, a bathing lake, a scented garden and a Japanese garden. The wooden spa buildings are well preserved and now house the youth hostel, a Viennese café with live music in the evening, administration and a naturum (information on hiking trails etc. and nature to touch). One of the three locations (soft center) of the Blekinge Institute of Technology and a hotel with a public swimming pool are adjacent.
economy
Traditionally, there are many workshops in Ronneby. The airfield adjacent to the north and a squadron of the Swedish Air Force stationed here are also important . The largest employer in Ronneby is the Tarkett group of companies. With around 650 employees, it produces elastic floor coverings ( PVC ) on site.
